This rustic living room on a lake in northern Maine was filled with camp antiques and collectables, but the look was cluttered and unwelcoming. We reconfigured the space using the existing furniture and accessories making several seating areas for various purposes: games, reading, warming by the stove, equipment storage, etc. The various collections were grouped together to give order to the space. Lighting was evenly distributed with pairs of lamps grouped on the same table. All the area rugs kept in the space were neutral to complement the neutral furniture, fabrics, floors, and walls. All the bright colored rugs and furniture were moved to other living spaces. The monochromatic color scheme made the space feel calming and cohesive. Now, the room is inviting, even on rainy, cold days in Maine.
